SST is Delighted to Announce Sponsorship with Recently Crowned Winner of Top Scottish Rally Championship Award, Andy Struthers

In 2015 and 2016, Andy won the RSAC Motorsport New Talent Scholarship, competed in the Ecosse C2 Challenge and also the ARRCraib SRC championship which involved the build of his Citroen C2, which is now the car he uses in all of his rally competitions. In 2015 Andy won class one of the ARRCraib SRC Championship.

At the end of 2016, Andy was stunned at the Scottish Rally Championship Awards ceremony in Glasgow, when he won the Douglas Wood Memorial Award. This award is chosen by the SRC management committee and presented to a driver who has consistently overcome adversity and battled against the odds. Andy plans to compete again in 2017 in both Scottish Rally Championship and the Ecosse C2 Rally Championship.

SST, in support of their local community and as a supplier of liquid level sensors to various performance  car enthusiasts decided to sponsor Andy in his upcoming events in 2017. Along with his other sponsors, Curtis Bros Fitness of Lanark and JS Crawford of Melrose, SST will support Andy’s adventures in the year to come.

Young county driver, Andy Struthers always had an interest in driving but quickly realised his passion for rally driving when he entered the first year of Ecosse Brick and Steel J1000 Rallying Championship for 14-17 year olds. For the occasion his dad, Drew Struthers, and mechanic Barrie Lochhead, built him his very own one litre Nissan Micra which he got lots of practice in around the fields and farm tracks near his home in Libberton.

His passion grew stronger which led him to taking part in the second and third year Championships when a new car was built for these seasons…a credit to Drew and Barrie. Navigated by Malcolm Robertson in year one of the championships, followed by Andrew Falconer for year two and three, Andy believed both navigators, helped develop his driving skills and confidence.  This was continued by navigators Pete Weall, who sat with Andy in his first year of senior rallying, and Ali McIlroy who sat with Andy last year, and will again this year.

In his final year of the J1000 Andy was runner up in the championship and won the Pearson of Dunns award for first Micra driver.
